How to disable Touchpad on a Windows 10 Asus laptop

Time needed: 3 minutes.

You can’t turn off the Touchpad on a Windows 10 Asus laptop by using Fn + F9 keys combinations. In order to disable your Aus touchpad in 2019, just follow the simple steps below. Keep in mind that you don’t need to install any software to do that.

  1. Right click on the Start Menu icon and slect “Device Manager”.

  2. Locate and click on “Mice and other pointing device”.

  3. Right click on “ASUS touchpad” and select “Disable device” from the menu.

  4. Click on the “Yes” button to apply your setting.

It works. Done!

My ASUS X53E series laptop “Mice and other pointing device” only contains “ELAN input device” and “HID compliant mouse”, not “ASUS Touchpad”. The “ELAN input device” only options are “update driver” and “uninstall device”, Not “disable”. I want to disable my touchpad temporarily, while I use my external mouse; but not have inadvertent touchpad overrides.

Did anyone answer this yet? I have the same problem as David and Anonymous. There is no mention of a touchpad in the device manager that I can find. Also, the touchpad is mentioned in Settings, but there is no option to turn off the touchpad.
